One question I get asked quite frequently is from parents asking if SKrafty can be used for High School.

The answer is absolutely, yes! 

When we started SKrafty 5 years ago my kiddos were all from Kindergarten/1st grade through the 5th grade.  We have added classes to fit them as they have grown so SKrafty class offerings have grown right with them.  We have plenty of high school courses to choose from!  Many high school students tend to enjoy live class interaction and learn well from a teacher introducing the topics, etc so our live classes are really popular with them.  We have awesome teachers who care about their students and a wonderful online community as well.  If you’d like to get your high schooler involved in the SKrafty community check out the options below for online courses.  We have several self paced courses as well as a live track starting this summer.

Self Paced High School Courses on SKrafty:

We have literature add-on courses, High School History using The Mystery of History by Linda Lacour Hobar, Self paced Science courses like Biology, Chemistry, and others using Apologia and Berean Builders curriculum as well as Algebra, Geometry and more!  You’ll also find some fun electives like Personal Finance and Entrepreneurship using Dave Ramsey’s curriculum, Study Skills, and even classes for helping with goal setting, etc.  Head HERE to learn more about our self paced classes available for High Schoolers on SKrafty!

What About Minecraft?

You may be aware that many (most?) of our courses include Minecraft activities.  This is a huge plus for those students who love playing the game, and the Minecraft activities really help to increase subject learning.  However, if your kiddo doesn’t enjoy it, the classes stand alone and are completely adequate even without the Minecraft projects.

 

 

I have always really appreciated the idea of studying history chronologically.  My two favorite methods of homeschooling (Charlotte Mason and Classical) recommend learning history that way so that’s how our family has always done our history studies.   On SKrafty we have tons of options for history so families can pretty much pick and choose what they’d like to learn about or pick up where they are in their lessons using SKrafty classes.  There are online self-paced classes to go along with The Mystery of History by Linda Lacour Hobar, The Story of the World, Notgrass History as well as self-paced history classes that require no textbook.  Those are all available to begin at anytime.

DIVE IN

When you are doing a chronological study of history it is a huge benefit to really dive into the era you are studying.  An immersive learning experience can really help our kiddos to absorb the things they’re learning.  One way to do this is to include that period of history in with all your subjects. Here are some ways to achieve this:

• Study literature based on or written during that period
• Choose a science class based on discoveries during the era
• Write papers, learn vocabulary words and other English topics using books and stories about the history topic
• More…

We really enjoyed getting to know some of you last night and discussing the IEW Method of writing and grammar as well as the classes SKrafty will be offering next year.  The writing process taught by the Institute for Excellence in Writing is a beautiful way to teach writing that produces amazing writers who actually don’t hate writing.  If you are on the fence or wondering what it’s all about you will definitely want to watch our IEW Informational Video below that explains the process and how to fit it in to your homeschool.

One of the biggest hesitations I’ve heard for using the IEW writing method is that it can be parent intensive.  That’s where we at SKrafty have you covered!  We have live online IEW writing classes taught by caring, experienced IEW teachers who will come along side parents in teaching.  Our teachers will do all the teaching during a live class once a week, AND they also grade their papers!  It’s really a win-win situation as students get the benefit of this amazing writing program without the need to completely learn a new program.  For information on how IEW works and to see your SKrafty IEW Class options watch the video below.
